With reference to Jason's post of 4-24-03 on gas tank removal, I must have lost my Speedo cable washer the night I did the seat mod. I didn't realize I lost it until I read Jason's thread about it. Nothing has leaked yet and probably won't but when I went to the dealer today to get an oil filter I asked the parts counter person about buying the washer. He looked up the Speedo cable assembly on the compuper and the washer was not listed or shown on the detailed blow-up of that section. He said I would have to order the enire cable assembly to get the washer. I said I would just take the oil filter. I didn't have the nerve to ask if someone would disconnect the cable from the Savage on the showroom floor so I could see what I needed to find for replacement....sooo..the next time anyone has occasion to un-do that assembly I would really appreciate a measurement and description, like, is it an O ring or does it fill the cup except for the center where the cable end fits into its slot in the tranny?? and especially, what is the thickness??
It may sound quite stupid to be asking so much for a problem that does not exist, but if there are any other Obsessive Compulsives out there in Savage Land, you will understand. My Clymer manual has nothing on it.
Getting back to the oil filter; that thing looks like it would come in a box of cereal. And the price:$7.30 plus $.55 tax! I'm a good way from 600 miles on my bike for when I change the oil, torque the head, and adjust the valves, but I am going to send the filter with our parts runner at work to the Filter Products warehouse that supplies all the filters for our equipment fleet. They said they would be glad to try and match it, but I am not optimistic. They could not find a cross reference with the EMGO or J C Whitney numbers from an earlier post. I don't want to place a $25.00 order to get an oil filter. I'll share any worthwhile info. Enjoy the weekend.
